Welcome back from your well deserved Easter Break, I hope you all feel renewed, refreshed and ready to complete this school year in the greatest possible way.
There are a couple exciting field trips that your child(ren) will no doubt find exciting, fun and educational. The 7th and 8th graders will once again be working with Civil and Environmental Engineering students from UCLA. This is my eighth year working with Professor Jay and her students and in each year the program has continued to improve. The 7th grade students are scheduled to visit Santa Monica Beach on Friday, May 6th. Once there they will obtain several ocean water and sand samples which they will then use to study bacteria levels. Then, scheduled for the following Friday, UCLA will be on our campus to analyze and interpret the samples, and on May 13th we will visit UCLA to present our findings to several UCLA professors and students.
I'll do my best to keep you posted about our research and discoveries.

Hello Parents and Friends,
Report Card day is near! Honestly, your children have been working very hard this past trimester, a trimester which began way back on December 6th. Overall, I am very happy with the effort that each student has shown and it appears that once again the majority of the class will be recieving an Honor Roll award.
Keep up the hard work.

A very special congratulations to 6th grader Christine Navarro who won the Elks Lodge Drug Awareness essay contest.

Happy New Year

Welcome back,
The months ahead always seem to fly by, please continue to monitor you child's homework and study habits and discuss daily and weekly goals with them, then help them achieve these small goals.
This week looks to be especially exciting. On Tuesday (Jan. 11) the junior high will be visiting the Museum of Tolerance (www.museumoftolerance.com), a field trip that challenges the way we perceive one another and will surely prove to be a memorable day. On Friday, the author of "Saltwater Taffy" Eric Delabarre will speak to the sixth and seventh grades. Mr. Delabarre is a creative and kind friend and will be discussing the challenges he faces as a writer as well as helpful tips to help us all become great writers too. Read more his new book at www.whatagreatbook.com

Talk to you soon,
J. Murphy

Happy Holidays

I must begin with a BIG thank you to so many parents and friends for all their help and kindness during this hectic holiday season.
First, to all of you for attending the parent/teacher conferences last week. The seventh grade is a very special class with so many intelligent and talented young people and after meeting many of you I realize their competitive and exuberant spirit is a direct reflection of many of you. In addition to our meetings, thank you for all the donations made towards our Posada celebration. A special thank you to our homeroom mother, Mrs. Alyson Langan for organizing our donations. Also thank you for assuring your son/daughter had practiced for the Christmas concert, I believe it was one of the best we have had in many years and although I truly need nothing many of you have been kind enough to give me a Christmas present, I feel very blessed.

Congratulations to our Honor Roll Students (all students listed below have a B+ average of higher)
Brioni Becerra
Jennifer Caballero
Jane Cho
Sharla Clemente
Jazmin DeJesus
Ephraim Edem
Lauren Langan
Jansen Nunez
Marcos Rubio
Paula Torres
Lecero Castillo
Three additional students also earned Honor Roll however these names are withheld at the parents' request

I will be thinking of so many of you, my SoCal friends as I brace and bundle up for my Christmas in the Northeast. I look forward to seeing you all in 2011. Have a safe and joyous holiday season.

Hello Family and Friends,
It's is difficult to believe November is already upon us. The junior high has accomplished so much already and there is much more work ahead including an exciting field trip this Friday to The Skirball Cultural Center (www.skirball.org).
You son/daughter should have delivered an important paper to you on Tuesday, November 2nd. This paper has your unique log-in and password to view their grades online. I encourage all of you to visit www.gradelink.com regularly to stay up to date with your child's academic progress.

A quick reminder concerning next weeks schedule; there is no school on Thursday, November 11 in honor of Veteran's Day and there is no school Friday, November 12 for a teachers in-service.
Enjoy your extended weekend and encourage you son or daughter to continue reading and writing during this time.
